Community Dive: A resolution you won't quit

In case you missed it, 2019 was a big year for us here at DiveIn. We launched our app, we mixed it up, and we volunteered our time with incredible organizations. None of this year's accomplishments would have been possible without passionate people like you making an impact in your local community. While the year might be over, we're just getting started!

A resolution you can keep

What better way to bring in the new year than by living a life of sustainability? Regardless of whether you're going green to help the environment, to save money, or just see how easy it is, every step you take towards eco-friendly living is one that helps the world. Plus, no matter what you do, it won't leave you feeling guilty like that wasted gym membership. Here's a quick guide to help you fight climate change that'll leave you beaming with pride 365 days from today.

  1. Eat for a climate-stable planet. The decisions we make about food can have a profound effect on the environment. Try making your diet more climate-friendly by (1) eating more meat-free meals, (2) buy organic and local whenever possible, (3) don’t waste food, and (4) grow your own produce.
  2. Green your commute. The many ways to reduce your transportation emissions may also make you healthier and save you a few bucks. Whenever you can, take public transit, ride a bike or advocate for bike lanes in your community, car-share, switch to an electric or hybrid vehicle, and fly less.
  3. Consume less, waste less, enjoy life more. Focusing on life’s simple pleasures — spending time in nature and being with loved ones — provides more purpose, belonging and happiness than buying and consuming. Sharing, making, fixing, upcycling, repurposing and composting are all good places to start.
  4. Invest in renewables and divest from fossil fuels. Even if you can’t install solar panels or a wind turbine, you can still be a part of the clean-energy economy. Search online for local renewable energy co-ops to join. As a member, you’ll own part of the co-op’s renewable energy projects and will receive a return on your investment.
  5. Support or join youth-led movements. Young people have the most at stake when it comes to climate change. Their futures are on the line if we can’t meet the 1.5 C cap on warming. All over the world, kids, teenagers and young adults are taking matters into their own hands in inspiring ways. Help them grow their movement by joining and supporting them however you can.
