Hi there!

If you didn’t know already, here at DiveIn our mission is to empower people to get involved with the causes they care about in their local communities. As part of that mission, we’re starting the Community Dive as a way to help people make a real local impact. We’ll share monthly updates on what's going on in the DiveIn ecosystem along with some resources, articles, and opportunities taking place in your own backyard.

We hope you're as excited as we are and we’d love to hear what you think. If you have any feedback, please don't be shy. =)

Our amazing panelists!

Mixing it up

In case you missed it, we hosted our first ever DiveIn Community Mixer at San Francisco's Impact Hub on April 23rd. We had a great panel of speakers, an amazing audience, and a killer taco bar. Here are some of our favorite quotes from the night,

  • Tania Estrada from The Women's Building, "I encourage everyone to engage with a cause and an organization. There are a rainbow of options and time is very powerful, along with skills, and donations - all of it makes a very big impact."
  • Lynn Luckow from LikeMinded, "Pursue impact, not self-aggrandizement. Lean into fear with intention and as a method of learning."
  • Erik Mebust from The Sunrise Movement, "You have to be very generous when engaging people outside of your echo chamber and come at it from a growth perspective. You can't lose hope that people can change."

The DiveIn Mixer was not meant to be a single event, but a starting point for the important work that must be done to increase local impact at scale. We hope you'll join us in future events designed to educate our peers and bring us closer to the communities we aim to serve.

What's up with that app?

Last year, we released a product that didn't meet our standards and, most importantly, didn't empower people to make a local impact in the way that we had envisioned. As a result, we made the difficult decision to remove our products from the market and refresh our approach. We're now beyond excited to share that we'll be releasing our new app this spring. Our app will have thousands of volunteer opportunities and events across the country and will help people to realize their agency to make a lasting local impact. Invite your friends to DiveIn with us and sign up on our website for updates!

No wack hacks

It's no secret that many nonprofits are strapped for cash and generally lack the bandwidth to launch expensive social media campaigns designed to attract new audiences. Check out How Digital Transformation for Nonprofits Is Enabling Constituent Engagement to learn new ways to engage your supporters.

Inclusion matters

With so many public and high-profile discrimination scandals, many companies are hiring CDOs (Chief Diversity Officers). While having a CDO is better than not having one at all, tasking one individual with the job of remedying a toxic workplace culture and developing strategies to attract and retain diverse talent is a huge burden, to say the least. Diversity and inclusion are more than just buzzwords. They need to be taken seriously so organizations can overcome implicit bias and systematic racism from within. Shoutout to our nonprofit homies

Our friends at NFTE and PRC are hosting some events this month that we think you should know about.

In less than 2 weeks, NFTE will host their Quarter and Semi-Finals at the San Jose Youth Entrepreneurship & Innovation Summit at SJ City Hall on Friday, May 10th. They still have morning and afternoon volunteer slots open! DiveIn here.

PRC is hosting its Grand Opening of the PRC Integrated Service Center at 170 Ninth Street on Wednesday, May 15th. Mayor London Breed will be performing the ribbon-cutting ceremony and they will be offering tours and entertainment. They have several open volunteer shifts. Email: volunteer@prcsf.org to lend a hand.

Calling all Pilot Partners

Interested in helping us build a solution that empowers a broad spectrum of nonprofits and companies to engage more young people, streamline volunteerism, and create lasting partnerships? If so, our pilot program might be for you. We're working with a select group of organizations and companies and still have some availability. To learn more, check out our nonprofit and corporate decks, and email us at info@divein.app to set up some time to chat.
